Elmer (Hal) and Agelia Haddon - Squaw Bay/Bayview

This 1904 photo shows the Elmer E. Haddon family who homesteaded 160 acres of land above Squaw Bay and the present town of Bayview, but little is known of them except what can be found in records.

Elmer was born in Indiana in 1867; his wife, Agelia, in Iowa in 1866.  Some early recollections indicate that Elmer was called Hal by the local folks.  They were married about 1888, had their first child George in 1890, while living in Nebraska, and came to Idaho in '90 or '91.  Their next ten children were born in Idaho between 1891 and 1906, presumably while living on their homestead above Squaw Bay.  These children included Mary, Alverda, Jessie, Anna, David, John, Grace, James, Maggie and Bert.

The family moved to Skagit County, Washington, around 1907, as records show that Martha was born in Washington in 1908 and William followed in 1909.  The 1910 U.S. census lists this entire family as residents of the Fidalgo Precinct.  Elmer died January 4, 1945, at the age of 78 in Skagit, WA., but his name appears on the 1930 Bayview census as a widower, so he must have returned to town for a period of time.
