Jim and Mary Feely - Bayview

Jim was born in Iowa in 1876 and moved west in 1882, settling on the Rathdrum prairie.  After retiring from farming the couple came to Bayview in the early 1930s, buying their first float home on the Gasman docks.  They moved the home to the north a bit when they purchased a series of docks near the Washington Brick and Lime Company which became known as Feely's Resort.  They bought adjacent land from the Ammons who had moved into the Joseph Spear home (See Bayview History) and developed the Feely Subdivision.  Most of those lots went to the 12 Feely children.

Jim and Mary loved to run the resort.  Mary was well-known for her garden which she crafted on the dock.  Jim enjoyed fishing and telling stories.  They owned two different boats - the Nipagon (below) and the Kootenai.

The picture on the left is a copy of a painting by artist and Bayview resident Hattie Bloomberg.  She loved to paint on the hillside above Scenic Bay and made this composition of the Feely's float home with Mary in back and Jim near the front door.

(Note from Linda:  A grandson and his wife, Chuck and Gail Waller, have retired in Bayview on one of the family lots.  In the 1990s the couple donated land in memory of Chuck's father and uncle for the newly designed Bayview Community Center and later gave an additional lot for the Center's Park and Memorial Garden.)
